Butler was born in Houston on September 14, 1989. His father abandoned the family when Butler was an infant.
By the time he was 13 years old and living in the Houston suburb of Tomball, his mother kicked him out of the house. As Butler remembered it in a 2011 interview, she told him, “I don’t like the look of you.
You gotta go.” He then bounced between the homes of various friends, staying for a few weeks at a time before moving to another house.
Despite all of this, Butler maintains a close relationship with his parents, saying, “I don’t hold grudges. I still talk to my family. My mom. My father. We love each other. That’s never going to change.”

After his own brilliant performance Monday, Butler doubled down on his comments. The superstar wing dropped 56 points in a come-from-behind, Game 4 win on Monday night.
He and the Miami Heat now lead the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks 3-1 in their first-round series.
During his post-game interview with TNT’s Allie LaForce, LaForce mentioned the fact Butler received MVP chants from the Heat faithful, at which Butler affirmed his endorsement of Embiid for MVP.
“I don’t know about MVP,” Butler said. “I think that’s Joel if I’m being brutally honest.”
Butler was supported by Bam Adebayo (15 points, 8 rebounds), Caleb Martin (12 points, 9 rebounds) and Gabe Vincent (10 points, 8 assists).
Bucks outperformed Heat in each of the first three quarters. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s team were leading by 11 points over Heat at the end of third quarter.
But in a stunning turnaround, Heat totally outplayed Bucks in the fourth quarter to grab the sensational win. In the fourth quarter, Heat scored 41 points while Bucks could manage 25 points.
