The Los Angeles Chargers got their man: Jim Harbaugh is their new head coach.

Jim Harbaugh : Why did leave the Forty Niners ?

Harbaugh and the Chargers agreed to a deal on Wednesday afternoon.

After winning the national championship at Michigan, Harbaugh has one career goal left, and that’s to win the Super Bowl. With the Chargers, where the franchise quarterback is already in place in Justin Herbert, Harbaugh thinks he can do it.

In his last NFL stop, with the 49ers, Harbaugh came close, but fell just short and lost to his brother John and the Ravens. Now Harbaugh will see if he can turn the Chargers into champions.

It won’t be easy, as the Chargers are coming off an ugly season and are in rough salary cap space. But with Herbert, the most important piece of the puzzle is in place.

Harbaugh leaving Michigan also leaves a vacancy at one of the most attractive spots in college football, and plenty of coaches will be interested in that job. But Harbaugh has decided to move on. He’s now the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Why did Jim Harbaugh leave the forty niners

When the San Francisco 49ers and Jim Harbaugh parted ways at the end of a disappointing 8-8 season, the 49ers presented it as two sides agreeing to a divorce. However, in a new interview, the Michigan head coach says that wasn’t the case.

There had been talk of boiling tensions between Harbaugh and the 49ers front office throughout the 2014 season.

He reportedly tabled extension talks with the team last offseason, which contributed to the in-season drama of his future with the team.

The 49ers have completely rebuilt their coaching staff after parting ways with Harbaugh, hiring Jim Tomsula as head coach and getting rid of virtually all of the former regime.

Harbaugh found another job quickly, agreeing to take over his alma mater days after leaving the 49ers.

Letting Harbaugh out of his contract with one year left seemed like a strange move for the franchise given how successful he had been in four years, appearing in three NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl. The more information that comes out, the more it seems San Francisco pushed for a change.

Tomsula and his staff have a high bar to live up to, but at least they seem to have more support from York and general manager Trent Baalke than Harbaugh did at the end of his tenure.

To Harbaugh’s recollection, the Niners informed him that he wouldn’t be coming back on the Monday after the team’s Dec. 14 loss at Seattle. Instead of leaving then, Harbaugh said he wanted to coach the final two games out of a desire to finish what he started.

As it turned out, Harbaugh finished the season, ending an 8-8 season with a 20-17 win against the Arizona Cardinals on Dec. 28. After that game, the Niners issued a statement declaring they had mutually agreed to part ways with Harbaugh.
