Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies have been counting down the days until their marquee matchup with the Warriors on Christmas Day at Chase Center.
After losing to Golden State in the 2022 Western Conference semifinal round last summer, Morant and a young, talented Memphis squad are looking for revenge.
In an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Morant explained why he’s looking forward to the matchup with the Warriors on Sunday.
As much as Morant respects the Warriors, he doesn’t appear too concerned with the threat Golden State might pose when healthy, as well other competitors in the Western Conference.
When asked by Andrews which team he views as the toughest matchup, Morant had only one answer.
Ja Morant shoes
Ja Morant announced the launch of his first signature shoe with a heartwarming video on Sunday, as he enlisted the help of his daughter Kaari to unveil the new sneaker.
In the clip, Morant is sitting on a wooden bench as Kaari comes over and hands him a wrapped shoebox.
With Kaari’s help, Morant opens the box to reveal a light blue, pink and yellow colorway of his very own Nike shoe, the Ja1.
‘It’s what I always wanted. Thank you,’ the superstar guard says to his daughter.
Sharing a promotional image of the shoe to his Twitter, Morant said,’ I didn’t get here by myself.
‘This is for Dalzell, Murray, Memphis and everybody who believed in 12 from Day One.’
While the guard will debut the shoes in Memphis’ Christmas game vs. the Warriors, according to ESPN, they reportedly won’t be available via retail until spring and summer 2023.
The shoe, which features the star’s ‘Ja’ logo on the tongue and has a mesh and leather upper, is expected to be priced at $110.
‘Just being able to have a signature shoe with Nike, not a lot of guys have been able to achieve that,’ Morant told ESPN.
‘It’s definitely a big milestone for me and something that I’ll never forget.’
The 23-year-old is averaging 26.5 points per game this season and has led Memphis to a 20-11 record ahead of their first-ever Christmas game.

Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant debuted his official Nike logo.
An entire generation of NBA legends is on the back end of their professional playing careers. Meanwhile, a new cast of budding stars is on their way up the ranks.
One of the players at the vanguard of the new generation is Ja Morant. Despite the Memphis Grizzlies selecting Morant with the second overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft, the acrobatic point guard has still leaped over the lofty expectations placed upon him.
Most fans have forgotten the intense debate surrounding Morant before the draft. Selecting a player from Murray State seemed like a significant gamble. Yet, Memphis believed in Morant, and so did Nike.
Yesterday the Grizzlies traveled to Denver ahead of their nationally-televised Tuesday night matchup against the Nuggets. The Grizzlies’ social media team tweeted pictures of the players boarding the plane.
Morant used the opportunity to casually debut his official Nike logo.
On the team flight, Morant wore black sweatpants, hoodies, and house shoes. However, the white logo on his right leg stood out to keen observers. Below is everything fans must know about Morant’s promising future with Nike.

After much speculation, Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant will officially become the next athlete to get a signature sneaker with Nike.
Morant is expected to wear these shoes, which are called the Nike Ja 1 Day One, for the first time on the court when the Grizzlies play the Warriors on Christmas.
This is a much-anticipated game for Morant, especially after the Grizzlies had an intense series with the soon-to-be NBA champions during the 2022 postseason.
This will be the first time in franchise history that the Grizzlies will play on Christmas Day.
Take a look at the design for the sneakers that Morant will wear in the game against Golden State:
While this is the first time fans will see them on the NBA hardwood, the Memphis guard announced that the sneakers won’t be available for purchase globally until April 2023.
Morant, who will become one of Nike’s signature athletes shortly after the apparel brand parted ways with Kyrie Irving, made the announcement with a video on Twitter featuring his daughter Kaari.
