Brisbane Lions captain Dayne Zorko allegedly targeted a member of Melbourne defender Harrison Petty’s family with a three-quarter time sledge on Friday night.
Petty was left in tears and needed to be consoled by coaches and teammates during the final break in Melbourne’s 58-point Round 23 win over Brisbane.
SEN’s Sam Edmund provided clarity over the reported sledge.
“Dayne Zorko’s comments to Harrison Petty, they were cruel from the Lions captain and centred in on the health of a family member,” Edmund told SEN’s Crunch Time.
The AFL looks set to investigate after a messy on-pitch incident at The Gabba on Friday left Demons’ defender Harrison Petty in tears.
The fracas with Brisbane’s Dayne Zorko took place at three quarter time and led Petty to be consoled by his Melbourne teammates, officials and coaches.
“Petts’ thought he heard something inappropriate about a family member he was a bit upset about it,” Melbourne senior coach Simon Goodwin told reporters after the match.
“Brisbane have spoken to us and obviously the AFL will look at it.”
Fox Footy Vision from the pitch at three quarter time showed Petty and Zorko in a confrontation which included shoving.

Harrison Petty tears
Brisbane captain Dayne Zorko will find himself under a spotlight as Melbourne expect the AFL to investigate a sledge against Harrison Petty that left the defender in tears at the Gabba.
Petty was visibly emotional during the three-quarter time break, spending some time off the field before returning late in Friday’s 58-point win by the Demons over the Lions at the Gabba
The incident sparked a heated discussion between Melbourne football manager Alan Richardson and his Brisbane counterpart Danny Daly before the fourth quarter.
Zorko was then confronted by several Demons at full-time before going to Petty and having a long discussion with the 22-year-old.
Demons coach Simon Goodwin would only confirm the sledge was an “inappropriate” comment about a Petty family member.
“We’re going to hand it over to the AFL,” Goodwin said.
“Petts was a bit emotional at three-quarter time. He went away, re-set himself and came back into the game. That’s as much detail as we’re going to go into.
A sledge from Brisbane captain Dayne Zorko, which left Melbourne defender Harrison Petty in tears, has overshadowed the Demons’ 58-point AFL win over the Lions at the Gabba.
Petty had to spend time off the field after breaking down during the three-quarter break as the Demons moved into the box seat for a top-two finish with a dominant 18.7 (115) to 8.9 (57) victory.
Zorko was confronted by several Demons after the final siren before having a long discussion with Petty on the field.
Seven News’ Tom Browne reported on Saturday morning that the Demons had been contacted by the AFL over the incident, but the club have asked for Petty’s privacy to be respected.
Demons coach Simon Goodwin confirmed 22-year-old Petty had heard something personal said about a family member and the Lions had been “apologetic” towards the Demons about the incident.
“Obviously, Petts thought he heard something inappropriate about a family member, he was a bit upset about it,” Goodwin said.
