Hampton is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for FA Women’s Super League club Aston Villa and the England national team.
Hampton is a product of the Stoke City and Birmingham City academies and also spent five years as a child in the Villarreal CF youth team.
In 2016, Hampton was recruited for the Birmingham City Centre of Excellence by then-Academy Director Marc Skinner who would later be appointed first-team manager.
On 5 November 2017, Skinner called Hampton up for her senior debut in a League Cup group game against Doncaster Belles.
Hannah hampton Attitude
Hannah Hampton has been dropped by Sarina Wiegman because of her behaviour and attitude at the team’s camps.
The 21-year-old Aston Villa goalkeeper has not been called up by Wiegman since the European Championship, where she deputised alongside Ellie Roebuck for Mary Earps, and is unlikely to be selected again under this England manager.
Hampton has not played for Villa since 25 September and was left out of the squad for Sunday’s defeat at Chelsea. She watched from the stands even though the manager, Carla Ward, has said Hampton was told to stay at home.
Multiple sources have told the Guardian that Hampton has caused problems with her behaviour and attitude in England age-group teams and at club level. The Football Association, Villa and Hampton’s representatives declined to comment.
Before England’s World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Luxembourg in September, Wiegman said Hampton was absent because “she has some personal issues that she has to solve so for her at this moment it’s better for her to stay at her club”.
Hampton was also omitted for October’s friendlies against USA and the Czech Republic and will not be included in the squad Wiegman names on Tuesday for games in November against Japan and Norway in Spain.
Prior to World Cup qualifiers in September, Wiegman claimed Hampton’s absence from the national squad was due to ‘some personal issues that she has to solve so for her at this moment it’s better for her to stay at her club’.
However, her situation at Villa seems to have spiraled out of control recently after she turned up to their game unannounced – despite being left out the squad ‘in the best interests of the team’.
Hampton was available for the first time in four games having recovered from an injury but found herself omitted from the first-team squad at Kingsmeadow.
However, she was seen watching the game from the Chelsea home end and posted a picture of the match on her Instagram story with the caption ‘let’s go team #utv’.
After the game, Villa boss Ward confirmed: ‘Hannah was available. Something happened yesterday and we decided it was in the best interests of the team and the squad for her to stay at home so I did exactly that.
‘That’s all I really want to say on the matter. I made the decision in the best interests of the team to leave at her home and I’ve left her at home. I would probably prefer to talk about the 11 players that were here.’
Now, England and Aston Villa goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has been dropped from the national team because of her behaviour and attitude at the team’s camps.
What did Hannah Hampton do
Sarina Wiegman says Hannah Hampton still has ‘personal matters’ to resolve but insists the door is ‘always open’ to a return after the goalkeeper was left out of the England squad for a third successive time.
Hampton was dropped by Wiegman after the Euros over attitude problems and the manager has not spoken to the 21-year-old since.
‘I haven’t spoken to her myself, we have made a plan, she’s at her club, she’s taking care of that,’ Wiegman said. ‘We are supporting and that’s where we are right now.
‘It’s the same reason as I said in September, nothing changed. That’s basically what it is.
‘She still has to [sort things out], it’s something personal I would not like to comment on further.
Writing on social media seeking to clarify the situation, Hampton said: ‘I’ve been suffering with an ongoing medical issue for a while and it’s time to address it properly this week with a small procedure.
