The Gold Coast 500 is an annual motor racing event for Supercars, held at the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit in Surfers Paradise, Australia.

The event was cancelled from the 2020 and 2021 Supercars Championships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however is scheduled to return in 2022 as the season finale.

Having previously been held as a two-driver event known as the Gold Coast 600, the event is scheduled to be held as a single-driver 500 kilometre race from 2022.
The event is staged over a three-day weekend, from Friday to Sunday, with Enduro Cup co-drivers joining the series’ primary drives for the third consecutive event.
Gold Coast 500 2022
The event will take place across 500 kilometres split into two 250-kilometre heats. While that is less distance than the pre-pandemic 600-kilometre format, it is now a single-driver event, which means it will be more challenging than ever for the drivers.
There is three days of track action with practice kicking off on Friday. Saturday and Sunday will then each feature a qualifying session, a Top 10 Shootout and a 250-kilometre race.
Shane van Gisbergen is poised to seal the 2022 Supercars crown this weekend, the Kiwi holding a 567-point lead over Cam Waters.
If that lead is over 450 points come Saturday evening, van Gisbergen will win a second consecutive title and third in total.
He has already won a record 19 races this season, including the recent Bathurst 1000 alongside Garth Tander.
Gold Coast 500 2022 schedule
The first of two Supercars practice sessions kicks off at 12:35pm AEST on Friday followed by a second session at 3:15pm AEST.
Grid positions 11-25 will then be determined by a 20-minute qualifying session a 11:25am AEST before the first five rows will be settled by a Top 10 Shootout at 1:05pm AEST.

The first 250-kilometre race will then start at 3:45pm AEST.
On Sunday qualifying is at 9:55am AEST, the Top 10 Shootout at 11:35am AEST and the race at 2:15pm AEST.
Track map
The track is just 3km long, which makes it a spectator’s smorgasbord as the drivers have to complete the circuit over 100 times to reach the finish line 300km later.
And the layout of the track makes viewing easy as there are plenty of vantage points for fans wanting to view the race up close.
The track layout and design also mean that the track reduces disruption to the local traffic and residents.
Aside from the thundering V8 race cars roaring around the track, there is also plenty of live entertainment, concerts and great activities for kids.
The event will see some of Australia’s hottest DJs and international stars take to the Club 500 stage on Macintosh Island on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening of October’s event, headlined by Bliss n Eso, Carl Cox & Eric Powell’s Mobile Disco and Sneaky Sound System.
Visitors planning on attending the Gold Coast 500 should book accommodation early, as this is a very popular event with thousands of people flocking to the Gold Coast year after year.
