In a battle of pit strategy, Verstappen’s tactics of using the Soft and Medium tyres triumphed over Hamilton’s Medium-to-Hard strategy.

The Dutchman secured his 14th victory of the season to break the record of most wins in a single season, previously set by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel.

When asked whether the start was the main factor in securing the victory, Verstappen also pointed to the need to preserve the tyres and avoid a Mercedes fightback.

“Yeah, that helped me out a lot for the rest of the race to stay in the lead after Turn One,” Verstappen told media.

“Of course, we were also on a different strategy to the cars around us.

“It was an incredible result the pace of the car was again really nice. We had to look after our tyres, because it was a very long stint on the Medium, but we made it work.

Verstappen was then asked about his record-breaking victory total for the 2022 season, where the Dutchman commented on his desire to achieve even more:

“Yeah, it’s been an incredible year so far. We are definitely enjoying it and we’ll try to go for more!”
