The winner of the competition qualifies for the play-off round of the 2023–24 UEFA Europa Conference League.
Liverpool are the defending champions, having beaten Chelsea on penalties to secure a record 9th title in the previous season’s final.
EFL cup 2022 draw
All 92 clubs in the Premier League and English Football League entered the season’s EFL Cup. Access is distributed across the top 4 leagues of the English football league system.
In the first round, 22 of 24 Championship clubs, and all League One and League Two clubs will enter.
The following round, the two remaining Championship clubs, who finished 18th and 19th in the 2021–22 Premier League season, and the Premier League clubs not involved in either the Champions League, Europa League, or Europa Conference League will enter.
The draw for this round was split on a geographical basis into ‘northern’ and ‘southern’ sections. Teams were drawn against a team from the same section.

Here are the upcoming dates and the exact schedule for all of the Carabao Cup or EFL Cup rounds for 2022/23:
- First Round: August 9-10, 2022
- Second Round: August 23-24, 2022
- Third Round: November 8-9, 2022
- Fourth Round / Last 16: December 20-21, 2022
- Quarterfinals: January 10-11, 2023
- Semifinals: January 25 and February 1, 2023
- 2023 League Cup Final: Sunday, February 26th 2023
This isn’t the only cup competition in England, as we also have the FA Cup, and Premier League giants Liverpool came out on top in this tournament in 2021/22.
Third Round draw
A total of 32 teams will play in the third round. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United entered in this round due to their participation in either the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League, the 2022–23 UEFA Europa League, or the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League. The draw was made on 24 August 2022.
As far as defending champion Liverpool is concerned, it will be entertaining League One side Derby County at Anfield in Liverpool.
In contrast, Leicester City will host League 2 side Newport County at the King Power Stadium. Also, West Ham United hosts Championship side Blackburn Rovers at the London Stadium.
EFL cup 2022 final
The 2022-23 Carabao Cup kicked off on August 8, 2022 and will go on for six months until the final, which will take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday February 26, 2023.
