The West Australian netballer who found herself at the centre of the sport’s multi-million dollar sponsorship dispute has marked her long-awaited debut with a match-winning goal against England.

Donnell Wallam, who was the first Diamonds player to raise objection to the Gina Rinehart-owned Hancock Prospecting’s $15 million sponsorship of the team, sealed a 55-54 win over their arch rivals in Newcastle.

Diamonds players threatened to boycott wearing the mining giant’s logo on their shirts during the recently completed Constellation Cup series with New Zealand, before the massive investment in the sport was pulled.

Wallam became just the third First Nations woman to represent Australia and the first in more than two decades when she ran on in the final quarter to a warm reception.

The goalie, who is still a relatively unknown prospect on the international stage, has repeatedly shown in the West Australian Netball League that she is more than capable of carrying the load and exerting significant pressure on the scoreboard.

Her outstanding preseason performance against Courtney Bruce in 2020 cemented her as an exciting talent with plenty to offer.

Despite just taking up netball a few years ago, Wallam is a seasoned prospect whose ability to shoot with both volume and precision highlights her match-winning tendencies and stellar progress.

For the new-look Leeds team, her ability to be a major target inside the goal circle will undoubtedly pay off, and the goal shooter can truly establish herself as one to watch thanks to her spotless hands, sharp vision, and vertical jump.

Expect the Australian to start strong and play a significant role for the Rhinos in their first season because of his strong work ethic, perseverance, and consistency on the court.

Indigenous netballer Donnell Wallam’s dream debut to score the match winning goal for Australian Diamonds against England has been trashed by bitter trolls.

Wallam, 28, was mired in controversy this week after the row over the Diamonds’  $15million sponsorship deal with Gina Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting.

The rising netball star didn’t want to wear the brand logo over controversial comments mining magnate’s late father made decades earlier.

Wallam’s stance was supported by her teammates and led to Rinehart pulling out of the vital sponsorship deal which now threatens the future of Netball Australia.

The fiasco saw all eyes pinned on Wallam in Newcastle on Wednesday night, with the 28-year-old named on the bench to face England, hoping to make her international debut.

Coming onto the court in the fourth term, Wallam received a huge ovation from the Newcastle crowd and there was bedlam when she scored with her very first touch of the game.

No details of her father available anywhere.
