Watson enrolled at Clemson in January 2014. During his high-school career, Watson had worn #4, but at Clemson, that number had been retired after quarterback Steve Fuller graduated. However, Fuller allowed Watson to wear the number.
Watson entered his true freshman season as the backup to starter Cole Stoudt, but still received extensive playing time.
Through three games, he completed 29 of 41 passes for 479 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions, outperforming Stoudt. Watson was named the Tigers’ starter on September 21.
In Watson’s first career start against the North Carolina Tar Heels, he set a school record with six touchdown passes and threw for 435 yards en route to a 50–35 victory.

As Deshaun Watson opens the next chapter of his career against his old team at NRG Stadium on Sunday, the former Texans quarterback will also be reminded of his embattled past.
Now with the Cleveland Browns, Watson will make his first appearance in a regular-season game since Jan. 3, 2021, after serving an 11-game suspension by the NFL.
About 10 of the women who accused Watson of sexual misconduct during massages will be at Sunday’s game between the Texans and Browns. The women will be in a suite with their lawyer, Tony Buzbee.
They thought it important to make clear that they are still here and that they matter. I was proud of them for that,” Buzbee said in a statement. “I think it’s important to note each of these women is different.
You can’t paint them with a broad brush. I would never encourage any of them to attend. Some never want to hear Watson’s name again. Others have put it in the past. Some are still angry. Others are defiant. Makes me proud they want to stand up and be counted rather than quietly go away. Good on them!”
Watson was still with the Texans when more than 20 women alleged he exposed himself, touched them or kissed them against their will during massage therapy sessions. One woman alleged Watson forced her to perform oral sex.
Ultimately, 25 women represented by Buzbee filed lawsuits. One woman dropped her lawsuit while 23 others settled their cases in August.

One-time star quarterback Deshaun Watson has spent more time huddling with lawyers than NFL offenses over the past two years.
But after 24 lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault, a settlement paid by his former team and an 11-game suspension and $5 million fine, the NFL has deemed him available to return as the Cleveland Browns’ starter on Sunday.
What makes this a marquee matchup for Week 13 is the fact he’ll be back in Houston, the scene of the alleged crimes, to face the Texans. And the Texans don’t have much in the way of defense.
At first glance, Watson is a tempting option for these next two weeks, the last two of the fantasy regular season. After Houston, he faces Cincinnati, and that game could be a shootout.
And a good quarterback will be harder to find, with two teams on bye this week and a full six idled in Week 14.

He has averaged a little more than eight targets per game over the past eight games and is becoming a favorite of Trevor Lawrence. With eight teams facing byes in the next two weeks, Jones is one of the more attractive free-agent options that is still widely available.
