Daniel Ricciardo McLaren
After two years at Renault F1 Team, Ricciardo joined McLaren for the 2021 Formula One World Championship as a replacement for Carlos Sainz Jr. who had signed a multi-year deal with Ferrari.
He partnered with Lando Norris, who was retained by the team.
In his first race at the Bahrain Grand Prix, he out-qualified his teammate and started the race in 6th.
On Lap 4, Ricciardo was hit by Pierre Gasly and suffered floor damage to his car resulting in the loss of a considerable amount of downforce.
Despite the performance loss, Ricciardo was able to finish the season opener in 7th holding off Sainz at the end of the race.
At the following race, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, he qualified 6th for the second race in a row and once again ahead of his teammate. Ricciardo moved up to 5th on the opening lap but was subsequently unable to keep pace with the top 4 cars in the wet conditions and was ordered to let Norris past, which he did. He ended up finishing in the same position he started after a difficult race where he faced a slow pitstop.
