Eubank
In August 2022, it was announced that Benn would fight against Chris Eubank Jr., in a match-up that echoed the famous grudge between their respective fathers, whose rivalry had been as intense verbally as it had been in the ring.
Benn would have an unbeaten record going into the fight: while Eubank was more experienced, but his career included two defeats on points.
Also, the two boxers would be approaching middleweight from opposite directions, with Eubank having the advantage on that score: Benn had fought all his previous career as a welterweight and would be moving up a weight, while Eubank had spent most of his time at middle and even super-middle, from which he had only recently come back down. The date for the fight was set to be October 8th, 2022.
“It’s a fight that’s going to spark the imagination of the British public, that’s what I’m happy about. In terms of anticipation, legacy and hype it’s the biggest fight of my career.”
Benn said: “This fight is for the legacy and was an opportunity I felt I couldn’t pass up. My team and I had other options on the table as I’m currently ranked top five with all governing bodies at welterweight and no doubt I’m looking for a world championship fight very soon, but this fight is embedded with so much history and I know it’s one the public really want to see.
