Benn had a privileged upbringing due to his father Nigel’s successful boxing career.
Twelve years of his childhood were spent on the Spanish island of Mallorca, where he lived with his family in a gated, eight-bedroom mansion with a pool, and had a Jacuzzi in his room.
Despite this, his father taught him financial self-reliance by never giving him money; Benn said he supported himself by “doing painting and decorating in Spain for €20 a day…from six to five”.
He also spent time in Australia where he boxed as an amateur before starting his professional career.
Conor Benn Drugs test
The British Boxing Board of Control says Saturday’s fight between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr is “prohibited and not in the interests of boxing”.
Benn has returned an “adverse analytical finding for trace amounts of a fertility drug,” promoters have said.
They say he has not been suspended and remains free to fight in London because his B sample has yet to be tested.
But British boxing’s governing body issued a statement that has appeared to place the fight in doubt.
The board said its decision not to sanction the fight was communicated to the boxers and promoters on Wednesday morning.
An earlier statement from promoters Matchroom and Wasserman Boxing had said: “The B sample has yet to be tested, meaning that no rule violation has been confirmed.”
It added that Benn, 26, had not been charged or suspended and that he and Eubank, 33, are still keen to fight on Saturday.
The pair are scheduled to meet in an all-British catchweight bout at the O2 Arena, 30 years after their fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr, faced each other in the ring.
It is conceivable the promoters could find another body to sanction the bout, although they have yet to respond to the board’s statement.
A fight between David Haye and Dereck Chisora was sanctioned by the Luxembourg Boxing Federation 10 years ago despite neither boxer having a licence at the time.
