Last week during The Match, commentator Trevor Immelman put Tiger Woods on the spot with a simple question: Is Charlie outdriving you yet?
“I hate to say it, but I’m going to admit it. He finally did it,” Tiger said. “I spun one, he tomahawked one and got me.”
It’s not hard to see why. Charlie Woods comes into this year’s PNC Championship looking a little different than in year’s past. Specifically, bigger.
Charlie is 13 now. He’s taller, and he’s filled out his skinny frame with more muscle. And when he hits shots, contact sounds different than it used to. There’s more pop these days.

The young Woods don’t have a lot of wins like his father. However, many predict that he can fill the void of Tiger Woods in the future.
One of the first introductions golf fans got to Charlie was after Tiger won the Bridgestone Invitational in 2013, and Charlie went to greet him after in a sweet father-son moment.
The PNC Championship is hardly Charlie’s introduction to golf fans. He’s been dazzling with highlights for some time, even if it’s been more sparing.
For starters, there were his club twirls after shooting at last year’s PNC Championship, emulating a Tiger special.

Humorously, there is some controversy (if you want to call it that) over what tee boxes Charlie will play. In an event that features an 11-year-old and an 87-year-old, there are a wide variety of tee boxes to be played.
Charlie was reportedly going to play the second-longest tee boxes originally, but the tournament committee bumped him to the third-longest, according to Golf Channel. The course is expected to play around 6,400 yards from where he will tee off.
Tiger admitted last week that Charlie recently out-drove him, so I’m not sure the second-longest tees (around 6,700 yards) would have been an issue. The younger Woods will likely dominate from 6,400 yards.
“Anybody we play with will be a treat and will be a thrill,” said Jordan Spieth’s dad, Shawn, on Thursday. “Is Charlie carrying it 260 or 290? Everybody wants to know which one it is, so that will be fun, or more, after the last two weeks.”
“Actually, to be honest, definitely Charlie, Charlie, Charlie. But kind of just strange enough, after watching Tiger in The Match, to me, with a bit more speed and a bit more of that, like, you never doubt Tiger’s mental ability, and it’s always one where is he able to come back, and you don’t want to give up — like he looked better physically at that match and the speed.
“It’s very interesting for a 13-year-old. And he did it when he was 11. It’s hard to support the angles in a golf swing when you don’t have — at 11, he could hold the club at the right position. Like most kids who are good at 11, 12, 13 years of age, their swing hasn’t even come close to developing.
Is injured
Tough start to the week for Charlie Woods, and it had nothing to do with his golf game.
While warming up for Friday’s pro-am at the 2022 PNC Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Charlie rolled his ankle and is hurting a bit.
During his round, Charlie had a bit of a limp and looks uncomfortable after hitting some of his shots.
Cameras showing Friday’s pro-am round captured Charlie and father Tiger Woods walking away from the 11th green, and they both had a noticeable limp.
The PNC Championship gets underway Saturday. Team Woods goes off with Team Thomas, with Justin playing with father Mike, at 12:02 p.m.
