Tiger Woods says he won’t let the risk of further injury stop him from teaming up with son Charlie at this weekend’s PNC Championship; Woods is dealing with plantar fasciitis that saw him recently pull out of the Hero World Challenge having been out of action since July.

The 15-time major champion recently teamed up with Rory McIlroy to take on Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth in The Match, marking his first taste of competitive golf since July having also missed the recent Hero World Challenge due to a foot injury.

Woods admitted to not getting the rest he requires while nursing plantar fasciitis, but seemingly won’t be deterred by the threat of further setbacks in 2023.

“You know, I don’t really care about that,” he said. “I think being there with and alongside my son is far more important, and get to have a chance to have this experience with him is far better than my foot being a little creaky.”

Tough start to the week for Charlie Woods, and it had nothing to do with his golf game.

While warming up for Friday’s pro-am at the 2022 PNC Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Charlie rolled his ankle and is hurting a bit.

During his round, Charlie had a bit of a limp and looks uncomfortable after hitting some of his shots. Cameras showing Friday’s pro-am round captured Charlie and father Tiger Woods walking away from the 11th green, and they both had a noticeable limp. Like father, like son.

Don’t expect Team Woods to withdraw, however. They finished runner-up to Team Daly last year and are one of the favorites to win the title this year.

Charlie, who is only 13 years old, out-drove Tiger earlier this year. As a result, he is playing from the third-longest tees at the event, which also features an 11-year-old and an 87-year-old.

In addition, Charlie rolled his ankle on the driving range and was clearly playing through the injury.

“His ankle’s not exactly — well, it’s better than mine,” Tiger joked during the post-round press conference. “We’ll be ready come game time tomorrow.”

Neither the lengthy tees nor the ankle injury stopped Charlie from smoking the ball.

What happened to

Woods and his son, Charlie, were both noticeably limping during Friday’s pro-am at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club.

Tiger said his 13-year-old son sprained an ankle but will be ready to go when they tee off in Saturday’s first round with Justin Thomas and his father, Mike, at 12:17 p.m. ET.

Tiger Woods, who is still recovering from injuries suffered in a car wreck outside Los Angeles in February 2021, will be able to use a cart in the 36-hole scramble.

“You know, I don’t really care about that,” Woods said, of the possibility of delaying his recovery. “I think being there with and alongside my son is far more important, and [getting] to have a chance to have this experience with him is far better than my foot being a little creaky.”

It will be the third appearance in the event for Tiger and Charlie Woods; they finished seventh in 2020 and were runner-up by 2 shots to John Daly and his son last year.

“Any time I get a chance to spend time with my son, it’s always special,” Tiger said. “And to do it in a competitive forum, the last couple of years have been magical, and to be able to do it again, we’re looking forward to it.”

“I’m doing everything,” Tiger said. “It’s frustrating because each and every day I have to do it, and then on top of that it’s trying to sleep in the damn boot, it’s no fun. My left leg is bleeding sometimes because the boot hits it.

Woods said his closest friends on the PGA Tour are urging him to slow down. He was forced to pull out of the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas earlier this month because of plantar fasciitis.
