Ruud (born 22 December 1998) is a Norwegian professional tennis player. Ruud has a career-high singles ranking of world No. 5, achieved on 13 June 2022, making him the highest-ranked Norwegian tennis player in history.

He has won nine ATP Tour singles titles, eight of which were on clay courts.

Ruud is the first Norwegian man to win an ATP singles title, to reach a major final (at the 2022 French Open), to reach a Masters 1000 final, and to enter the top 10 in the ATP rankings.

In doubles, he has a career-high ranking of world No. 133, which he achieved after reaching the quarterfinals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.

In the 2015 Wimbledon Boys’ Doubles, Ruud made it to the semifinals together with partner Miomir Kecmanović, before losing to eventual champions Lý Hoàng Nam and Sumit Nagal.

In-form fifth seed Casper Ruud pushed past Italian Matteo Berrettini 6-1, 6-4, 7-6(4) to reach the US Open semi-final on Tuesday with a shot at the world number one ranking still on the line in New York.

The French Open runner-up beat Berrettini on clay in July’s Gstaad final and looked just as effective on the hard court, hanging back behind the baseline to absorb the 13th seed’s power.

Sprinting through a sublime first set in which he produced just two unforced errors, it looked like Ruud was on track for a blowout victory when he was up 5-1 in the second set.

But Berrettini, who was sidelined a number of times this season due to injury or illness, slowly began to find his usual level and appeared to have cracked the code in the third set when he broke Ruud in the second game and saved four breaks in the third.

Ruud mustered a terrific comeback, breaking Berrettini in the ninth and never trailed in the tiebreak.

“That was (a) better start than I ever had before in a match,” Ruud said in an on-court interview, adding that he had to temper his enthusiasm in order to clinch the affair.

“Sometimes you can get a little overexcited and think you can walk on water,” he said.

Ruud, the fifth seed, will face either Nick Kyrgios or Karen Khachanov next in his second grand slam semi-final of the year after finishing runner-up at the French Open.

Despite boasting more experience at this stage of a grand slam tournament than all other men left in the draw, having reached three previous semi-finals, Berrettini was dire from the beginning, struggling to land backhands and haemorrhaging unforced errors from all parts of his game.

Less obvious, though, was how Ruud helped those errors along with his own industry. He continually locked Berrettini in his backhand corner with his heavy, vicious inside-out forehand, defended extremely well and made a high number of returns along with a high first-serve percentage.

“That was a better start than I’ve ever had before in a match,” said Ruud. “Everything was going my way, I was hitting the spots that I needed to.”

By the time Ruud led 6-1, 5-1, he had struck just two unforced errors in the entire match. But as his nerves provoked a few rare mistakes Berrettini slowly worked his way into the match. In the third set Berrettini led 5-2 and held two set points a game later, but he simply did not have enough confidence in the tight moments.

The 23-year-old tennis star Casper Ruud’s current girlfriend is Maria Galligani. The couple have been dating since 2018 and look lovely together. The girl loves to keep her private life to herself. 

Maria is not out in public yet. As she is just a student as of now and has not started working full time.

Since October 2018, Galligani has been working for the Norwegian Red Cross as a volunteer. Her job profile there includes working with children and young people in that organization. At the moment she is studying Psychology in Oslo.
