Breeders Cup 2022 : Saturday schedule | Purse
The inaugural Breeders’ Cup was held at the historical Hollywood Park, now defunct, in 1984. Although the first race meet was in 1984, the Breeders’ Cup Limited organization was formed in 1982. In 2007 the race expanded from a single day to two days of racing.
Leading Thorougbred owner and breeder John Gaines, in addition to other industry members like trainer John Nerud, came up with the during the 1982 Kentucky Derby Festival. The plan was to have a North American championship to close the racing year.
Race action begins Friday afternoon and continues Saturday on USA Network. NBC airs the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday afternoon. Ahmed Fareed hosts coverage with analysts Jerry Bailey and Randy Moss. Larry Collmus calls all of the Breeders’ Cup races.
Breeders Cup 2022 Saturday schedule
Championship Saturday begins on Saturday, Nov. 5. There will be a total of 9 races on Saturday with the first race of the day, the Filly & Mare Sprint, starting at 11:50 a.m. ET.
All of the races lead up to the final race at 5:40 p.m. ET, known as the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Coverage on Saturday begins at 1 p.m. ET and runs through 3:30 p.m. ET on USA Network. Then, starting at 3:30 p.m. ET, NBC will take over the coverage for the final races of the day. NBC’s streaming service, Peacock, will also begin coverage at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Purse
This year’s Breeders’ Cup has a $31 million purse for the races held on Friday and Saturday.
Winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday evening will take home the biggest grand Prize of $6 million.
