As a senior, he completed 151 of 233 passes for 2,211 yards with 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He finished his high school career with a Seminole County record 5,576 career passing yards and 53 touchdowns.

Labeled a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, Bortles was listed as the No. 44 pro-style quarterback in his class. Bortles chose UCF over offers from Colorado State, Purdue, Tulane, and Western Kentucky.

Bortles accepted the offer from UCF, which was the first college to offer him a scholarship and was located near his home.

He was redshirted as a true freshman in 2010. As a redshirt freshman in 2011, he played in 10 games, completing 75 of 110 passes for 958 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions.

The Good Place is in the middle of filming season 4, and at this point, Schur does not want to raise too many hopes that viewers will see Bortles slip through a portal: “I can guarantee you that we will make reference to his real-life employment situation,” he says. “But I think it’s far less likely that he actually appears on the show at this point — at least…. Never say never.”

Is Bortles a fan of the series? “I have no idea whether he has heard of this show or has watched the show,” says Schur. “I would assume someone at some point has told him that there’s a network TV show that has mentioned his name 500 times.

And i will say that the Jacksonville Jaguars PR and marketing people have been incredible. They’ve just been really fun to deal with and they totally get it. And they have enjoyed all of the references and jokes. There’s more Jaguars-related humor to come in season 4.”

On the other hand, though… “If an 11-year-old kid loved Blake Bortles as much as Jason loves Blake Bortles, that 11-year-old kid might just become a Rams fan and root for Blake Bortles,” says Schur, “because that’s where Blake Bortles plays now.” (And last we checked: Jason is a pre-teen trapped in a man’s body, so the plot thickens.)

The quarterback with the amusing, quasi-alliterative name has served as a frequent source of name-check humor on the series, courtesy of Jason (Manny Jacinto), who is obsessed with his hometown Jags — and has even gone semi-undercover in the Bad Place as Jake Jortles.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles officially announced his retirement from the NFLafter six roller coaster seasons.

Bortles, 30, last played in the NFL in 2019 with the Los Angeles Rams, but had never announced his retirement.

During an appearance on the Pardon My Take podcast, Bortles said he retired from football but didn’t tell anybody.

When asked if he was in good shape to sign with an NFL team, Bortles dropped the truth bomb.

“I quietly… I didn’t tell anybody, I retired,” Bortles said and “I guess you guys are kind of the first to hear it publicly.”

Bortles was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and he nearly reached the Super Bowl in 2017 but lost the AFC Championship game to the New England Patriots.

Tom Brady and the Patriots went on to win the Super Bowl, and Bortles’ career went downhill after that.

The Jaguars eventually signed Nick Foles to replace the struggling Bortles, who had signed a lucrative, three-year extension in 2018.

Bortles also served as a backup for the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints.
