Benjamin Andrew Stokes OBE is the captain of the England Test team and plays for the England Twenty20 International team, Retired.

He was part of the England team that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup, top-scoring in England’s innings in the final before batting in the tied Super Over, winning the Man of the Match award.

Also he was named the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World in 2019 and 2020, and won the ICC Award for Best Men’s Cricketer and BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in 2019. He was appointed captain of England’s Test team in April 2022.

An all-rounder, Stokes is a left-handed middle-order batsman and right-arm fast bowler. He holds the Test world record for most runs in an innings at number six, scoring 258 against South Africa during England’s 2015-16 tour.

In the same Test, he and Jonny Bairstow set the world record for highest sixth-wicket stand in Tests, at 399.

The mercurial England all-rounder Ben Stokes shocked the cricket world on Monday, when he announced his retirement from One Day Internationals.

The prolific cricketer contributed significantly both with bat and ball to take English cricket to new heights.

Stokes confirmed that England’s first ODI match against South Africa on July 19 will be his last and it broke the hearts of his millions of fans across the globe.

“I will play my last game for England in ODI cricket on Tuesday in Durham. I have decided to retire from this format. This has been an incredibly tough decision to make.

I have loved every minute of playing with my mates for England. We have had an incredible journey on the way,” Stokes wrote on his official Twitter handle.

“As hard as a decision as this was to come to, it’s not as hard dealing with the fact I can’t give my teammates 100% of myself in this format anymore. The England shirt deserves nothing less from anyone who wears it,'” he added.

Ben Stokes Documentary 

A documentary on England Test captain and all-rounder Ben Stokes will be releasing worldwide in over 240 countries and territories on August 26 on streaming platform Prime Video.

Titled “Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes”, the documentary has been created with Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes (best known for World War I film 1917) who features on-screen to discuss the highs and lows of the cricket icon’s record-breaking career across a series of interviews.

Produced by Whisper, the documentary tells the story of Stokes’ journey, examining his 2019 World Cup triumph and heroics at the Headingley crease against Australia in the Ashes, as well as the lows which came at a huge personal cost, and saw him take time away from the game as well as heal from a left finger injury in July last year.

The documentary captures Stokes’ most personal and challenging moments, including the final visit to see his terminally ill father and his struggles with mental health.

Stokes explores this journey on-screen with cricket fanatic Mendes, who also executive produces the film.

It also features intimate interviews with Stokes’ late father Ged, his mother Deb, wife Clare and children Layton and Libby along with friends, family, former teammates and opponents including Joe Root, Jofra Archer, Neil Fairbrother and the late Shane Warne. The documentary is directed by Chris Grubb and Luke Mellows and executive produced by Sam Mendes, Mark Cole and Sunil Patel.

Ipl 2023

England all rounder Ben Stokes is likely to feature in the upcoming season of the IPL. He missed the last season due to mental health issues but England all rounder is now up and running.

The Mumbai based franchise might look to sign him in the mini auction. They currently have a thin squad and someone will be needed to replace Kieron Pollard. Ben Stokes could be the right candidate.

Wife

Clare Ratcliffe, who notoriously calls herself a “cricket widow”, is married to one of the star players of the England cricket team, Ben Stokes. She is a primary school teacher and a “parent to two monsters” as she likes to call it. She’s been a constant source of support in the cricketer’s life.

Ben Stokes’s wife, Clare met the cricketer in August 2010. It was during a Lancashire v Durham game at Old Trafford that the couple first crossed each other’s paths.

Ben Stokes was just starting off with his career when he met his future wife.

She sent a friend request on Facebook and that’s how it all started off. Stokes later took her to some of his games and taught her some of the finer strategies and points.

The pair maintained a long-distance relationship in the initial stages as Stokes was living in Durham and Clare was studying in Taunton. After five months of knowing each other, they made their relationship official on Facebook.
