The horrifying allegations painted an image of the NBA 2005 Sixth Man of the Year as a troubled and abusive parent.

But now his ex Ashley Banks, who dated him from 2016 to 2020, has come forward with details that paint the incident in a far more positive light for Gordon.

Speaking the Daily Mail, Banks explained what happened: “Someone was being nosy. It was the kiosk lady. She was just being a Karen. They got security and he was triggered because he was with his son”.

According to her, the commotion started when he was doing pushups with his son Elijah, 11, and disciplining him. And the airport employee recognized Ben Gordon.

Gordon’s ex went on to blame an airport employee for everything: “My son’s father would never put his hands on his children. He lives and breathes air for his three boys. It was the case of the airport Karen triggering another black man. She should be fired. He was just very upset.”

“His son was not hurt, he wasn’t bruised and is with his aunt. The lady was starting with them and called security and he was getting upset. The child is fine”, she continued.

In a powerful 2020 essay called “Where is my Mind?“, Ben Gordon came clean about his mental health struggles.

For Gordon’s former partner, the worst part is the trauma the child suffered from watching his father be detained.”
