Liverpool have confirmed a new long-term contract for debutant Ben Doak, who puts pen to paper on a professional deal after his 17th birthday.

It was a bright cameo from the teenager, who has made an instant impact following his £600,000 move from Celtic in the summer, scoring nine goals and laying on seven assists in 15 games for the academy.

Next up was a place on the bench in the Premier League, going unused in the 3-1 win over Southampton.

That has now been followed by the announcement of a new contract, with Doak having become eligible for a professional deal upon turning 17.

Players under the age of 17 are only permitted to sign scholarship terms, but Liverpool were eager to tie down their No. 50 as soon as possible.

The deal is believed to run for three years, taking him to 2026, which is the longest possible time for a first professional contract.

Doak is likely to remain a regular in the youth sides, rather than the first team, but could be given more exposure at senior level as the campaign goes on.

He joined Celtic’s academy at a young age and was part of the St Ninian’s school programme, following in the footsteps of Kieran Tierney and Liam Henderson.

Doak first shot to prominence with a goal and Man of the Match performance on his debut for Scotland Under-17s against Wales in September 2021.

The academy graduate made his Celtic B debut in December 2021, playing under former Aberdeen and Hibernian defender Tommy McIntyre.

After training with the Celtic first-team, he was also promoted to the matchday squad in December, sitting on the bench for the 3-1 win at St Johnstone.

The 16-year-old then made his Celtic debut a month later, coming on as a 68th-minute substitute in a 1–0 Scottish Premiership win against Dundee United. He then became the club’s second-youngest debutant after Jack Aitchison.

Doak has since made another cameo appearance in a 3-0 win over Rangers as Celtic tried to convince him to stay in Glasgow.

Doak began his career at hometown club Dalry Rovers, before moving to Ayr United and then onto Celtic.

On 26 December 2021, Doak, having turned 16 the previous month, was named on the bench for Celtic’s 3–1 win away to St Johnstone.
