Mayfield joined the Bucs on a one-year deal as a free agent last year and his first season was a big rebound from a couple of down years spent with the Browns, Panthers, and Rams. Mayfield threw for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns during the regular season and then threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns in a playoff win over the Eagles.

After the game, head coach Todd Bowles said that Mayfield has “definitely earned” a new contract and Mayfield said he likes the idea of having another year in the offense.

“I love this group,” Mayfield said, via the team’s website. “I’ve said that all year and it’s authentic. It would mean a lot to me, to bring back a lot of key pieces, to get this back together, to get into Year Two in the system. I feel like we could make huge strides. I would love that. Obviously, we’ll see how it’s going to play out but I can’t say enough about this organization and the opportunity they gave me this year.”

Bowles said “it’s too early to talk about” Mayfield’s next contract, but it probably won’t be long before that’s a main topic of conversation in Tampa.

Baker Mayfield has one of the biggest personalities in the league — and that personality was on full display before Monday night’s playoff matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

As he came out of the tunnel at Raymond James Stadium, the Buccaneers quarterback ripped some smelling salts to get himself fired up for the Wild Card game.

Video of the pregame moment is going viral on social media.

“Baker Mayfield just ripping smelling salts otw outta the tunnel. Absolute FOOTBALL guy,” Betting Machine wrote on X.

This pregame routine clearly worked for Mayfield. The Tampa Bay signal caller completed 22 of his 36 pass attempts for 337 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Behind this stellar playoff performance from Mayfield, the Bucs took down the reigning NFC-champion Eagles with a dominant 32-9 score.

With this win, the Mayfield and the Bucs will travel to Detroit for a Divisional Round matchup against the Lions on Sunday.

Baker Mayfield has a recorded height of 6 feet and one inch or 1.85 meters. This height is slightly shorter than the average height of quarterbacks in the NFL.

This means that Mayfield would have to rely more on his skills as a passer and his ability to create space in order to throw a good pass to an open receiver. He may find difficulty in passing the ball over taller defenders in the league. At the same time, Mayfield is quick on his feet and can move into gaps with ease.

While his height may provide a slight disadvantage to Mayfield, it is not what has defined his game over the years. Hard work, skill, and being a leader is what has defined his game over the years.

At Texas Tech, Mayfield was a starter in his first year, amassing 2,315 yards and 12 touchdowns. He completed 218 out of 340 pass completions. For his performance, Mayfield was awarded the Burlsworth Trophy and the Big 12 Conference Freshman Offensive Player of the Year.

By the end of his first season, Mayfield announced he would be leaving the team after alleged scholarship issues as claimed by the quarterback.

In 2014, Mayfield transferred to the University of Oklahoma, where he was disallowed to play for one year due to violation of transfer rules. Over the years 2015 to 2017, Mayfield recorded 12,292 passing yards and 119 touchdowns.

He started in 39 out of 40 games and won many awards. These include the Manning Award, Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Davey O’Brien Award and Chic Harley Award among others.

Mayfield’s football career in the NFL kicked off with him being selected as the first pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft.

He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns. He has so far played for 4 teams in the NFL namely, Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
