Ash Barty new role has been revealed with the tennis champion joining the ranks of a major company after her retirement earlier this year.

Born in Ipswich, Queensland, Barty began playing tennis at the age of four in nearby Brisbane. She had a promising junior career, reaching a career-high ranking of No. 2 in the world after winning the 2011 Wimbledon girls’ singles title.

As a teenager, Barty had early success in doubles on the WTA Tour in 2013, finishing runner-up at three Grand Slam doubles events with veteran Casey Dellacqua, including at the 2013 Australian Open while 16 years old. Late in the 2014 season, Barty decided to take an indefinite break from tennis.

She ended up playing cricket during this hiatus, signing with the Brisbane Heat for the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League season despite having no formal training in the sport.

Barty returned to tennis in early 2016. She had a breakthrough year in singles in 2017, winning her first WTA title at the Malaysian Open and rising to No. 17 in the world despite having never been ranked inside the top 100 before her time off.

The job announcement was made in a Youtube video by Optus with the company’s slogan ‘it starts with yes’ prominent. In the video Barty says: “For me yes is more than just a word, it’s a mindset.

“It’s a mindset and I really do believe that saying yes and having the bravery and courage to say yes opens up so much more opportunity in your life.

Three-time grand slam champion and Australian golden girl Ash Barty has taken a different career path with communications giant Optus.

The Queenslander won the Australian open this year before stunning the sporting world by announcing her sudden retirement aged 25.

At the time Barty said that she was leaving professional tennis, while world number one, to pursue other life goals.

Ash Barty did things on her own terms as she won three Grand Slam singles titles and spent more than two consecutive years at No. 1 in the women’s tennis rankings.

She retired on her own terms, too. At the age of 25, just two months after winning the Australian Open title. The announcement stunned the tennis world on Wednesday.

“I just know at the moment, in my heart, for me as a person, this is right,” Barty said, her voice shaky at times, during a six-minute video posted on her Instagram account Wednesday in Australia.

Saying it was time to chase other dreams, Barty, who announced her engagement to trainee golf professional Garry Kissick in November, said she no longer feels compelled to do what she knows is required to be the best she can be at tennis.

The 26-year-old exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Queensland earlier this month.

Barty reached the pinnacle of world tennis as No 1 during a decorated career on the WTA tour.

Barty posted a wedding day photo on her Instagram account on Saturday night with the caption ‘husband & wife’.

Kissick is a trainee ­professional at Brookwater Golf Club, where the couple met seven years ago.
