On 1 February 2021, Gordon joined Championship side Preston North End on loan for the remainder of the 2020–21 season.

Five days later, he made his debut for Preston, being included in the starting lineup for a 1–2 home league defeat by Rotherham United.

Chelsea had an initial bid of £40m-£45m rejected by Everton this month but the club are prepared to increase their offer; Everton’s position is the player is not for sale but forward wants to move to Stamford Bridge; Callum Hudson-Odoi closing on Bayer Leverkusen loan.

Everton’s position this summer has been the player is not for sale. The £60m fee being prepared is the total value of a potential deal including add ons.

Earlier this month, Everton rejected Chelsea’s initial bid of around £40m-£45m for the forward. Conversations between the two clubs have been ongoing, however, and the London club are now willing to increase their offer.

A new contract at Goodison Park remains on the table for Gordon, whose current Everton deal expires in June 2025.

It is understood that Gordon, 21, wants to play Champions League football and also feels he stands a greater chance of breaking into England’s World Cup squad by playing at Stamford Bridge.

Everton have been made aware that Chelsea are ready to pay £50million plus £10million in potential add-ons.

Personal terms between Gordon and Chelsea are not expected to be a problem.

Gordon is a priority target for Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, whose side sit 12th in the Premier League table with four points from their opening three fixtures.

As it stands, a deal between the two clubs is not imminent and there remains a chance that it does not happen before the September 1 deadline.

Chelsea fans have been left puzzled after reports linking them to the £60million signing of Everton winger Anthony Gordon emerged. 

As reported by Sportsmail, the Blues have had four approaches for Gordon knocked back by Everton but the Londoners are continuing to test Everton’s resolve to hang onto their academy product.

Chelsea fans took to social media to vent their frustration and many believe Callum Hudson-Odoi is a better player than Gordon. 

Everton 

Gordon joined Everton as an 11-year old  following his release from Liverpool.

On 6 December 2017, Gordon was named in Everton’s first team squad for the Europa League match away to Apollon Limassol.

A day later, he made his first-team debut, coming on as an 88th-minute substitute in a 3–0 win.

He made his Premier League debut coming on as a substitute for Bernard in a 1–1 draw with West Ham in January 2020.

Gordon received his first Premier League start in June 2020 in a 0–0 draw with Liverpool.

On 1 September 2020, Gordon signed a new five-year contract with Everton.
