He was named Broward County Player of the Year as a junior after rushing for 1,786 yards and 28 touchdowns as the Paladins earned seven victories and qualified for the state playoffs.

As a senior, he rushed for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns despite missing three games due to injury, helping South Plantation to nine wins, the district title and a berth in the 8A state playoffs.

Following his senior season, he was selected to play in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, where he was teammates with fellow Arkansas signee Austin Allen.

Also a talented sprinter, Collins ran the third leg on South Plantation’s state-champion 4 × 100 m relay (41.98 s), leading to him being named the 2013 Broward County Male Athlete of the Year.

Former Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks running back Alex Collins died at 28 in a motorcycle crash over the weekend in Florida, police said.

An unidentified woman driving a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban SUV at 10:20 p.m. on Aug. 13 made a left turn to travel south on Northwest 33rd Avenue in Lauderdale Lakes when Collins struck the rear passenger side of the vehicle while riding a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said in a report.

The impact caused Collins to enter the rear passenger side window of the Chevrolet and come to a final rest inside the car, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV cooperated with police, and the accident remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Alex Collins this morning,” his family said in a statement through the Seahawks.

“Alex was cherished by his family and friends as well as supporters from all around the world. All who truly know him can attest to his drive, determination, and larger-than-life personality.”

“The NFL family mourns the loss of Alex Collins and we extend our deepest condolences to his family, teammates and loved ones,” the league said in a statement.

He played five seasons in the NFL from 2016-21 — three for Seattle and two for Baltimore. Collins finished with 1,997 yards and 18 rushing touchdowns through 50 career NFL games. He also became known for his Irish dancing after scoring touchdowns.

Collins was killed in a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and vehicle in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, and circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.

The incident occurred Sunday night at 10:20 p.m. ET, and Collins was pronounced deceased at the scene by Broward County deputies. Collins would have turned 29 on Aug. 26.

Collins enjoyed his best NFL season with the Ravens, when he rushed for a career-high 973 yards (averaging 4.6 yards per carry) and scored six touchdowns in 2017. He followed that up by scoring a career-high eight touchdowns in 2018.

He finished his career with 1,997 yards rushing and 19 touchdowns (18 via rush). Collins most recently played for the Memphis Showboats of the USFL in 2023.

“Absolutely heartbroken. Prayers are with the Collins family,” the Seahawks posted to social media.

Collins was remembered by Ravens head coach John Harbaugh in a statement released by the team on Monday night.

“Alex was a joy to be around and someone whose light shined brightly. I’ll always remember him for being a great teammate who had an uplifting spirit that impacted everyone he encountered,” Harbaugh said. “He was also a smart player who ran with unlimited determination, and he contributed to a lot of our success during his time in Baltimore. We send our heartfelt condolences and support to Alex’s family. May he now rest in God’s eternal peace.”

Collins attended South Plantation High School in Plantation, Florida, where he was also a standout sprinter, running the third leg of a state champion 4×100-meter relay team.

He went on to become one of the top rushers in Arkansas Razorbacks history – his 3,703 rushing yards are second in Razorback record books behind Darren McFadden (4,590).

 According to the reports, Collins had a net worth of around $5 million as of 2023, before he passed. It was known that most of his earnings and expense were produced from his football career.

According to Spotrac, Collins’s net worth is estimated to be $2,047,407 across five years in the NFL. Moreover, he earned $2,863,022 in base salary and $184,385 in signing bonuses.
