WWE kicked off the show with a six-man tag team match pitting The Street Profits and Madcap Moss against Theory and Alpha Academy.
The crowd’s love of the Scot was awe-inspiring. The pop was deafening, and the chants for him after the entrances and early on lost few decibels.
- Moss and The Street Profits defeated Alpha Academy and Theory
- Damage Control defeated Bliss, Asuka and Belair
- Gunther defeated Sheamus
- Morgan defeated Baszler to retain the title
- Edge and Mysterio defeated The Judgment Day
- Rollins defeated Riddle
- Reigns defeated McIntyre to retain title
A high-energy opener, it highlighted all six competitors adequately before Montez Ford exploded late and finish Chad Gable off with his awe-inspiring frog splash.
This was a perfect taste of things to come. The crowd was molten-hot for everyone involved, despite no prior storyline to speak of. Moss, in particular, looked great and continues to impress anytime he gets a chance to showcase himself inside the squared circle.
Fans expecting a hard-hitting, physical match between intercontinental champion Gunther and top contender Sheamus got everything they wanted in the next match while still being surprised at the intensity of the bout.
There will be some who criticize the idea of Baszler losing again but given the fact that the seeds were planted by Rousey that her friend used to be a killer but had gotten soft, it plays into that narrative.
Here was a woman who had victory in her hand if she had just channeled that killer instinct. Instead, she allowed Morgan to hang around and it cost her.
Recap
The bell was rung after the two teams were done beating each other, and the match began with both men landing heavy blows. Sheamus got a suplex but missed the chops on the apron. Gunther then took a dropkick before knocking the Celtic Warrior off the ropes with a chop.
Morgan started off strong and got some big moves before hitting a big dropkick on the apron, but Baszler powered through and locked in an elbow stretch. The Champion then got out of it but was knocked down again by Baszler, who followed up with a German Suplex for a near fall.
Edge came out in a Luchador mask, and the match kicked off with Rey and Balor in the ring. Finn started off strong, but Rey managed to send him into the corner before tags were made. Edge sent Priest outside before tossing Rey over the ropes, taking out both members of the Judgment Day.
Riddle unloaded on Rollins off the bat, and the match went outside, where The Visionary hit a huge powerbomb on the barricades. Rollins slammed him into the announce desk before hitting a Falcon Arrow in the ring for a near fall.
Reigns was nervous at the beginning and kept his distance, not allowing McIntyre the opportunity to hit any big moves early on. The Scottish Warrior then sent The Head of the Table over the ropes with a lariat before sending him crashing into the steel steps.
After the match, Tyson Fury got in the ring with Reigns and shook his hand. Tribal Chief then walked out with the newest member of the Bloodline, Solo Sikoa, as Fury helped McIntyre to his feet.
